Among the small number of chamber music festivals, Summerfest has been hailed for the longevity, depth and breadth of its commitment to commissioning new works. Having championed contemporary percussion music as a performer and teacher, UCSD Distinguished Professor of Music Steven Schick leads a stimulating roundtable discussion with three award-winning composers whose new compositions receive important premieres this year: UCSD Professor Chinary Ung, Australian viola virtuoso Brett Dean and Pulitzer Prize recipient Christopher Rouse.
