Paul Schoenfield, composer-in-residence

Paul Schoenfield, a Detroit native, began playing the piano at age six and wrote his first composition the following year. Mr. Schoenfield has received commissions and grants from the NEA, Chamber Music America, the Rockefeller Fund, the American Composers Forum and The Juilliard School. His compositions can be heard on labels including Decca, EMI and BMG. Although he now rarely performs, Mr. Schoenfeld formerly toured the United States, Europe and South America as a soloist and with groups including Musicians from Marlboro. Currently a faculty member of the University of Michigan, Mr. Schoenfeld studied piano with Julius Chajes, Ozan Marsh and Rudolf Serkin and holds degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University and the University of Arizona.
