Heiichiro Ohyama has a long-established reputation as a remarkable
conductor and one of the most renowned violists in the United States.
He is the Music Director and Conductor of the Santa Barbara Chamber
Orchestra and also the Music Advisor and Principal Conductor of the
Osaka Symphoniker, Japan. A winner of the Carl Flesch International
Violin Competition and Young Concert Artist Award, in 1979 he was named
Principal Violist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Carlo Maria
Giulini, a position he held for thirteen years. Mr. Ohyama is the
former Artistic Director of the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and La
Jolla Music Society SummerFest. He holds degrees from London's
Guildhall School of Music and Indiana University.
